Contemporary dentistry offers a number of solutions for regaining a full smile. It is healthy, well-groomed teeth that help to get rid of complexes and increase self-confidence. It is no different in the case of implants, which effectively restore natural teeth.
Implant treatment is one of the methods which are becoming increasingly popular and available. Is it worth opting for
dental implants? What is the procedure like and how much does it cost? Find out below!
What are dental implants?
Implantology is currently the most recommended method for replacing missing teeth. Dental implants are highly durable replacements for natural teeth.
They consist of a titanium screw, implanted in the jawbone. Prosthetic crowns – porcelain, ceramic, imitating the crown part of the tooth – are mounted on them.
Dental implants do not cause inflammation or allergic reactions. They are perfectly tolerated by patients.
Above all, they help to:
- prevent bone atrophy and the loss of other teeth,
- permanently eliminate discomfort, as there is no need for a denture.
Their shade can be fully computerised to match the colour of natural teeth. In addition, the feeling of a dental implant is in no way different from that of having natural teeth.

Dental implants – preparation for the procedure
This is an excellent alternative to traditional impressioning. It does not require any corrections and the dentist is able to scan the tooth appropriately in a three-dimensional format as well. Thanks to the scanner, prosthetic and implant work is shortened in time and restorations made in this way are extremely precise.

3D imaging
The tomographic examination is the basis for planning the implant procedure. The three-dimensional image shows precise information on the amount of bone, making it easier to select a tooth implant of a specific size. This makes the procedure completely safe, as damage to neighbouring tooth structures, such as the alveolar nerve, is avoided.
Dental implants – how does the surgery look like?
A common concern of patients is the painfulness of the procedure itself. Implantation is carried out under local anaesthesia, so you do not feel any pain at all. After the procedure, there is only the possibility of minor discomfort, which usually disappears within a day.
After the local anaesthetic is administered, the surgeon makes a gentle incision in the gum, pulls it apart and then drills a hole into which the implant is inserted. Finally, sutures are placed. The whole procedure lasts from thirty minutes to two hours.
Recovery from the insertion of dental implants is extremely important. In order to prevent rejection of the tooth implant, it is necessary to:
- eat only liquid, crushed food for about two weeks,
- rinse your mouth with water after every meal and use an antibacterial liquid,
- limit exercise, both recreational and in everyday situations,
- avoid the implant site when brushing your teeth,
- take prescribed medication,
- do not smoke or drink alcohol,
- avoid touching the implant area with your tongue as well as your finger.
After the procedure, regular follow-up appointments are made according to a predetermined schedule.
The healing process lasts between three and six months – this is when osteointegration, in other words the fusion of the implant with the bone, takes place. After this stage, a healing screw is inserted to allow the mucosa to heal properly.

Dental implants – indications and contraindications
When should you opt for a dental implant?
When should you opt for a dental implant? The basic recommendation for proposing an implant-supported tooth to a patient is the presence of missing teeth of varying extent. The insertion of an implant can concern people who are missing a single tooth, as well as even those characterised by complete toothlessness.
After tooth extraction, numerous changes occur in the oral cavity, such as disruption of homeostasis or migration of teeth. As a further consequence, this can lead to an abnormal connection during chewing or bone atrophy – which is why it is so important to react quickly!
Among the contraindications for implant treatment we can mention:
- advanced osteoporosis,
- inflammatory conditions,
- poor oral hygiene,
- oral diseases,
- bruxism,
- age below 16 years,
- pregnancy.
Price of dental implants
The prices of dental implants are generally quoted in a so-called ‘ price range’. It is difficult to define a single, fixed amount. It depends on the manufacturer of the implant, the chosen method of insertion and the material of the tooth crown.
To this must be added the cost of additional examinations, pre-implant procedures and the need for highly specialised dental equipment.

In summary, the implant procedure is painless, safe and permanent. The most common side effects are only temporary discomfort and swelling of the tissues.
We know from experience that the effect exceeds the patient’s expectations. With implants, the patient can be sure that teeth will not shift, bones will not atrophy and facial features will remain the same. On top of this, the problem of grinding or chewing, which could previously cause discomfort, disappears.
